Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award Competition 2017 for 2018
Program: Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) sponsors the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards to provide seed funding for research by junior faculty and catalyze competitiveness for other funding. Each award is $5,000 for one year (June 1 to May 31) and requires an institutional match of $5,000 (to provided by ORSP).
UM may nominate up to two full-time assistant professors whose initial tenure track appointment began between 1/8/2016 and 1/8/2018. ORSP will conduct an internal competition to fill these two slots with the most competitive nominees. Eligible faculty members who wish to be considered for nomination should submit an application by December 4, 2017, at 11:00 am. In filling these slots, priority consideration will be given to applicants who: 1) have not been nominated before, 2) are in their last year of eligibility, 3) and are proposing collaborative partnerships—especially with ORNL. Projects must be in one of the following five disciplines:
• Engineering and Applied Science
• Life Sciences
• Mathematics/Computer Sciences
• Physical Sciences
• Policy, Management, or Education
To be considered for nomination, follow the instructions at: http://www.orau.org/university-partnerships/faculty-student-programs/powe/default.aspx. In particular, UM internal applicants will need to prepare: a one-page abbreviated resume in the prescribed format; a two-page research proposal; and the completed application in html format.
Deadlines: Create and submit an application using the UM InfoReady Review portal at https://olemiss.infoready4.com before 11:00 a.m. on December 4, 2017. If the link does not work, copy and paste the URL into your browser. First time InfoReady Review users will need to register for an InfoReady account using your olemiss.edu e-mail address as your account name. After registering, you will receive an e-mail from InfoReady asking you to confirm your account. It is important that you use the Chrome browser for this step. UM applications will be scored by a committee of reviewers assembled by ORSP. UM nominees will be selected, and applicants will be notified by the ORSP, by December 11, 2017. Only the two selected applicants should then ask their department chair or dean to send the required letter of recommendation (in Word or PDF format) via e-mail attachment to Jason Hale (jghale@olemiss.edu) before January 4, 2018. These letters should be addressed to Dr. Josh Gladden, Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs, University of Mississippi. The ORAU deadline is 11 am CST, Monday, January 8, 2018.
Questions may be directed to Jason Hale (jghale@olemiss.edu).
